My Life Since Graduation
I guess most folks went off to college for a few years, but for me the university became a way of life. After I finished my architecture degree at Auburn, I started some photo classes at ETSU. I did a stint as a VISTA volunteer at Pittsburgh’s Architects’ Workshop and returned to ETSU for a graduate degree in photography.  I was incredibly fortunate to get an adjunct instructor position at the University of Delaware. The time on the east coast was an education in itself, as a lot was happening photo-wise in those days.

I got my first regular faculty job at Louisiana Tech in 1976, and I was there for nine years. They had a summer Rome program at that time which I got to do twice. I moved to my current position at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1985. I imagine UALR is a lot like UTC.  It has a similar history. During my first years here I was married, pretty much a disaster. In the nineties, I taught workshops for the now defunct (unfortunately) School of Photographic Studies in Prague for five years. Great place.  I highly recommend it. Now days, I head the photo program at UALR and enjoy teaching more than ever.

Through all of this, I’ve had many talented folks around to inspire, encourage and entertain.  Lots of laughs along the way. My photographs have shown mostly at university and other alternative space venues. If anyone is interested, you can check out www.photoeye.com/garycawood.
