BOBBY HOPPE BOOK NOW AVAILABLE

The story of Bobby Hoppe, Chattanooga's first All-American prep football player, is being published by Wakestone Press. Called A MATTER OF CONSCIENCE: Redemption of a hometown hero, Bobby Hoppe, the book chronicles Bobby's football career at Central and at Auburn, where he helped lead his team to Auburn's first and only national championship team, and gives the inside story on his 1988 trial for first-degree murder. For the first time, the man behind the mask will be fully revealed.

All Central alumni are invited to a book signing at Rock Point Books on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Book signings will follow across the southeast in eleven cities, including Atlanta and Auburn. After October 5, books will be available on Amazon.com.

CENTRAL HAS A MASCOT!

After waiting for more than 100 years, Central High finally has a mascot!  The grimacing "Pounder Man" that we've painted on signs and pinned on our lapels throughout the years has come to life and appears at pep rallies, football games, and other school events to represent Central High and help pump up the Central spirit.  After careful consideration, he was named "Stan the Pounder Man" after our beloved teacher, principal, and coach, Stan Farmer.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that 14 Central High staff members are Central graduates?  This includes Principal Finley King, Class of '83!

NEW CHS WEBSITE ON MySpace.com

The Alumni Association has recently created a Central alumni website on MySpace.com.  This website will hopefully reach out to the younger generation of Central graduates so they will have access to information on Alumni Association business, and other Central High news.  The web address is:  www.myspace.com/pounderalumni

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS

The Distinguished Alumni awards are given annually by the Alumni Association to "recognize individuals who, in their vocation or profession, have demonstrated concern and service to the community which favorably reflects on Central High School."  The award winners must be living or deceased alumni/supporters during the years 1907 through the current year and cannot be an alumni officer or present member of the Central faculty.

Recipients of the Distinguished Alumni award are announced in the fall each year.  If you would like to nominate an alumni/supporter for this award, give us the name of your nominee as well as a little information about the person and where they can be contacted.
